Aeternum VTT — cloud virtual tabletop for D&D 5e
Aeternum is a browser-based cloud virtual tabletop for running Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaigns end to end: computed character sheets, dice that roll from the sheet, and a real 3D map with an uploaded battlemap as the ground plane and OBJ, STL, or GLB models as tokens and props. There is no self-host product track — your table lives on the web so players join from a browser. Aeternum is in early access with community Free, Plus, and Pro signup when public registration is enabled.
Free keeps the full web toolkit under capacity caps, not feature locks. Plus is $5/month and Pro is $10/month. Plan entitlements are the same whether you act as Game Master or player. Free remains free.
Free, Plus, and Pro at a glance
Free
Free includes 1 owned campaign, 6 seated players, and 2 scenes per campaign. Custom model pools are separate: 8 monster-use GLBs and 6 character-use GLBs. Custom monsters and classes are unlimited. Journal entries max out at 99 and handouts at 2. You may keep up to 6 player characters, and each character may join up to 6 campaigns. Bundled SRD monster GLBs are included; Free has no broader non-SRD custom model library beyond those custom GLB pools.
Plus — $5/month
Plus raises capacity to 3 owned campaigns, 2 GB storage, and 6 seated players per campaign. Plus also unlocks the phone companion for HP, scores, and dice into a live session. The companion is not a full mobile VTT board.
Pro — $10/month
Pro includes 20 owned campaigns, 5 GB storage, and 99 seated players, with the same phone companion as Plus. Compare every row on the plans page.
What you can run at the table
Build and play character sheets in the browser with computed stats and dice that roll directly from the sheet. Import and export characters as JSON. Run multi-campaign tables from a Membership Hub that separates campaigns you run from campaigns you play and shows your plan chip. Seat characters from a user-level character library. Open scenes with fog of war, tokens, and 3D props. Run encounters, keep a journal, share handouts, and use a global slide-in session panel for dice and live-table controls on every page. New campaigns default to Systems Reference Document packs for both the 2014 and 2024 5th Edition rule sets, chosen per campaign.
Campaign-scoped invites let GMs seat players or co-GMs by email. Pending invites appear in the hub so players can accept or decline. Table and board display links support secondary screens during a live session. Signed-in users can open in-app support tickets; everyone can reach Support.
Rules content and attribution
Aeternum is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. Rules content for new campaigns draws from the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Systems Reference Document (SRD). Official SRD materials are published by Wizards of the Coast; see the Wizards Systems Reference Document and community mirrors such as systemsreference.com for the reference text. Product details and plan caps on this site describe Aeternum only.
How Aeternum is different
Capacity sells the upgrade path, not locked tools. Free is a real table with maps, characters, sessions, and the compendium under published caps. Everything runs in the cloud — players do not need to run a server. The board is the browser; Plus and Pro add room and a phone companion for HP, scores, and dice, not a separate full mobile VTT.
